We determine that habits are going to be changed and new patterns of behavior developed. Resolutions like these are highly commendable and can often serve as a stimulus to spiritual growth. But not always. Sometimes our resolutions are carried out only for a little while and all too soon are forgotten. Samuel Johnson, a deeply committed Christian who lived in the 18th century, frequently wrote resolutions in his journals. Here is a typical entry: “I have corrected no external habits, nor kept any of the resolutions made in the beginning of the year, yet I hope still to be reformed, and not to lose my whole life in idle purposes.” It is good to engage now and then in self-examination. We should face up to the changes that need to be made, and then make plans for the way we’re going to implement them. For example, if we realize that our devotional habits are weak and inconsistent, let’s resolve to spend some time daily in focused fellowship with God. Let’s ask the Spirit to help us in this consistent practice through all our tomorrows. Today is a good day to start. — Vernon C. Nick/Katie-doctor’s appointment

Hodges, a brilliant young professor of philosophy at Oxford University. One day as he strolled down the street, he passed by an art store. His attention was gripped by a simple picture in the window. It showed Jesus kneeling to wash His disciples’ feet. Hodges knew the story recorded in John 13—God incarnate washing human feet. But suddenly the sheer meaning of that scene gripped the heart of this young philosopher. God—God!—humbling Himself to do that lowliest of tasks! He thought, If God is like that, then that God shall be my God! Seeing that painting was one of the circumstances that caused Hodges to surrender his life to the true God—the foot-washing God. We Christians sometimes take God’s existence for granted. We believe what the Bible tells us about the eternal Spirit who had no beginning and whose existence will never end. But we may wonder sometimes about His character. If He allows disaster, how could He also be kind and loving? As we read John 13 thoughtfully, we see that God is the foot-washing God. His unfathomable, sacrificial love for us should cause us to surrender to Him too. — Vernon C. We ran down to the subway and jumped on the closest bus that said Madison Square Garden. We looked around at the passengers while trying to catch our breath. Luckily it was all old people. We sat down next to a couple who looked nice. The lady looked at me wide-eyed. “Are you Kevin Jonas?!” She asked. “Uh yeah” I said. “I love you so much! And your brothers are how you say off the chain!” She said. Me and Zanna just started cracking up. “Calm down Delores! They are about 60 years younger than you! He won’t marry you!” Her husband said to her.”But it’s the Jonas Brothers! It’s Kevin Jonas!” Delores said. “Come on, this is our stop” Her husband said. “Wait! Let me at least get an auotograph!” Delores said. “How about this? Would you like to come to the concert? We can get you backstage passes” I said. “Why, that would be incredible! Can I bring my grandaughter! She just loves you guys!” Delores said. “Of course. Just come to the concert at Madison Square Garden tomorrow and tell the guy by the stage that you are Delores. We will make sure he knows to let you backstage” I said. “Thank you so much Kevin!” Delores said while getting off the subway. “Aww! Kevin that was so nice of you to do that!” Zanna said. “Well you know me” I laughed. Zanna kissed me and we got off at our stop. We ran to the place and I saw Joe, Nick, and Lauren standing there. “Sorry, I couldn’t get out of traffic. And then we met this lady who loved us. And I gave her tickets for tomorrow’s show” I explained. Nick’s P.O.V. We got started rehearsing for the show and we all laughed when Demi, Selena, and Miley were arguing who would be in the middle. Finally Miley got to be in the middle and we started doing our routine. We practiced for a couple of hours and then we went backstage to eat something. I was filling my plate with food when Selena came up next to me. “You did a really good job out there Nicky” Selena said while brushing up against me. “Can you not call me Nicky? My name is Nick” I said. “Whatever. Well I was wondering if later you, Joe, and Kevin wanted to hang out with us?” Selena asked. “Well #1. I have a girlfriend. #2. Your freaking annoying me right now. And #3. Why would I hang out with you and Miley, Demi is fine. But Miley is a whore and a stuck up loser” I said. “Well I was just trying to be nice. Jeeze ass” Selena said while walking away. I just finished filling up my plate and went to sit by Lauren. “You did really good today” Lauren said while kissing me on the cheek. “Why thank you” I smiled. Joe’s P.O.V. We all finished eating and went back to our bus. “So what are we doing tonight?” I asked. “Well me and Zanna were going to try to go to Time’s Square because we didn’t get to go today” Kevin said. “And me and Lauren are going ice skating” Nick said. Re: Stupid Black Women Who Perm Their Hair

I am a sista with a relaxer……. And I am tired of self-righteous black men trying to tell me I hate myself. I do not hate any hatred towards black hair. I marvel at the variety of textures I see among sistas in America. The fact remains that in most black households in the U.S., relaxers are the norm from an early age. Black girls aren’t waking up saying they want to look like Heidi Klum. They are just wanting to look like their older sister or mother. Now you can argue whether the parent is wrong in that case, but the fact remains that the little girl is not necessarily associating perms with wanting to look white. More likely, they are associating it with looking like a “grown-up”. Personally, I don’t have any children and I don’t think I would “perm” my child’s hair. I would leave that up to them after we talked about it once she reached her teenage years because I love seeing natural hair for people who that works for. So please stop assuming that I hate being black. I am the first to correct a person who thinks that I may be mixed due to my eye color. I think black women should be free to wear their hair any way they so choose. Cut, color, weave, curly, straight, nappy - however she damn well chooses. My hair does not look like white people’s hair - it looks like straightened black hair. **FIST IN THE AIR** I included some pictures of myself and beautiful family members.

preserving my sexy

welp, i finally jumped on the “get sexy” bandwagon. i’ve recently been having issues with my weight but i can honestly admit that i’ve been doing nothing about it except for random exercise here and there. i tried to find fittv on my cable but to no avail cuz apparently comcast thinks you should have to pay extra just to get fittv. so, i did a little reasearch and found this lovely little website http://www.slimtree.com it has everything you could possibly need. a BMI calculator, a fitness tracker, weight loss tracker, personalized workout plan based on your current weight and exercise goals that you specify.. it even has a section where you can make journal entries to track your progress in your own words. its amazing and best of all it’s free. there’s workout videos that cover everything from yoga to kung fu. pilates to kickboxing. its prolly the best thing since sliced bread. i suggest visiting this website to anyone who is interested in setting up a workout plan but doesnt have the funds to get a gym membership or pay extra money to get a channel on their cable. if u dont like it, don’t sign up for the FREE membership but if you do, sign up and gets started preserving your sexy too. either way, you have nothing to lose [except maybe a few extra pounds lol]. p.s. thanks DannacaLynn for putting out those weigh in videos. i have a feeling had i not watched them, i never would have REALLY been motivated to get up off my lazy ass and do it.
